As part of the 19 May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day events, our faculty member Dr. Ercan YALÇIN joined the live broadcasts of several national TV channels from two historically significant locations: Samsun Tobacco Pier and the Bandırma Ferry.
In the programs, the theme “The ferry that carried a nation’s destiny…” set the framework for an in-depth discussion of the First Step of the National Struggle. The historical background of Mustafa Kemal Pasha’s three-day journey—beginning on 16 May and ending in Samsun on 19 May 1919—was examined in detail.
The broadcasts also highlighted the significance of 19 May 1919 in Turkish history, the social conditions of the period, and the key events that shaped the spirit of independence.
